Killers of The Flower Moon: An Approaching Vibrant Autumn Breeze
Written by Rafi (Kru’22)
Whatever formula he puts here, no matter how consistent or how versatile he has been in creating crafts in his Film, it will not take you away from the fact that he, as an 80 year old man, does seem unlikely to face nor has he ever did in the past, a career decline in his remaining active years as he continuously thrives in outdoing himself over and over again. If we visualize a year in Film as a savanna, it’s pretty much almost never a casual happenstance for him to be The King of The Jungle among the presence. Killers of The Flower Moon is just another terrific addition to his legendary filmography. It’s perplexing, fresh, and not very far of his another potential Best Picture front runner.
When we talk about the main discourse of this film, length has always been on the top of the list following its 216 minutes runtime. It’s an extra controversy to its existence if we also mention about how deeply delicate and disputable the plot of the film basically is. Be that as it may, if you actually watch the film, these two are bound to shatter the pretense they are attached to. It is, I would call, a dissemination of impertinence for the people who will be willingly blinded by the simple assumption and never to find out the actuality. Like a mother’s constant faith in the struggles of her children, we ourselves should be it as well and trust Scorsese and his cease in giving us an obvious triumphant in every aspect of his films, including this one. It is visually endearing despite the heaviness of the topic it carries simultaneously within and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful thing he might have ever done. How the film’s subject reflect contradictions between itself, like how the perspective of the protagonists and the villains keeps switching throughout the film and we get to sympathize & be frank with our eyes over how cruel and bizarre that this actually happened in real life and how hysterically coerced the villains are at justifying their actions — is just insane to begin with. What a thrilling depiction of racism, genocide, greed, exploitation, corruption, colonization, you name it. It is visceral, haunting, and daunted in the most imaginable ways. The same thing is happening in real time and Killers of The Flower Moon should give you enough graphic enactment to not be blind about what is happening to the world.
It’s very genius for Scorsese to cast the prominent actors known for taking villainous roles as the protagonist and thus the opposite. It just showcases how extremely versatile and talented they are at doing their job. It is not required, but they somehow do it anyway and it’s an overdue applause for them if we ever should give to. As for Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone? It would be a deranged world if they, or for at least one of them, and by one of them we should be talking about Gladstone, ended up earning zero Oscar nomination. DiCaprio has always performed his best and once again extends the resume of himself as the greatest living actor out there. De Niro was no doubt a scene stealer in yet another insane role he stars in. The real winner here is Lily Gladstone. To speak honesty, we should be a spectator to her future after this. What a sincere, heartfelt, and gut-wrenching performance. Her performance is enough a reason for you to watch the film. It is perhaps the most ecstatic part of the film.
Killers of The Flower Moon once again could position itself as one of the front runners of Best Picture or even nominations in general at the Oscars. Throughout the year of 2023 so far, it has been prominently divisive for films so far and it seems not to favor against the Martin Scorsese’s picture. If we must interpret, Scorsese’s presence, among all, felt as if a vibrant autumn breeze in the wake of a rapid evanescence of summer. It is long overdue and it’s welcomed of all.
